This past Saturday the PINEAPPLE Surf Contest took place in
Melbourne Beach, celebrating its 25th Anniversary.
It was a long day,the contest finished almost at 8:00 pm. Conditions were ok, 2-3 ft waves and sometimes glassy with many competitors in all divisions, including Bodyboard. Team rider Al Rumbos had to go through 3 different heats to
make it to the final where he finished 1st after scoring 2 nice barrels and taking
home the pineapple.

Hi everyone, the 2008 season for the Florida Bodyboarding Association (FBA) is bringing a few changes.

As you may know, the FBA is working together with the USBA (United States Bodyboarding Association) to put together a Regional Tour in our State to promote even more the sport of Bodyboarding. Same projects are happening all across the country, having for the first time, in years, that Bodyboarding will be supported by a truly National Tour, where competitors will qualified through their region.

This agreement will provide, not only an unified umbrella for the sport, but a major exposure through all media, as magazines, websites, TV and more.

This weekend, you will be able to watch on NBC, the JEEP Outdoor show 2:00 pm EST, where the last Pipeline Pro of Bodyboarding will be featured.

Bodyboarding is in the right track and the FBA is proud to be a part of it.

Al Rumbos just got back from the East Coast where he competed in the 2008 ESA Southeast Regionals.

He placed 3rd in the Open Bodyboard division.
This year, the Open Bodyboard division brought lots of very good riders from all over Florida. Al made it all the way to the Finals where conditions got really good for the final with 3-4 ft glassy waves and offshore winds.

Shea Lindon from the east
coast placed 2nd in the first event of the year with the Clash of the Carolinas contest. This was an event
with 2 districts of the ESA competing against one another (SNC versus CNC). Shea placed just behind East Coast Men's Bodyboarding Champion - Mark Ramsdell who took 1st.

The FBA # 4 took place this past Saturday, March 22nd at Flagler Beach. Conditions were in the 2-3 ft range and glassy.

Who placed 4th in the Open Bodyboard division at the 2008 Eastcoast Scholastics March 15-17 in New Smyrna Beach,FL

Bobby Kithcart placed 2nd in the pro open @ the BIA Ponto event this past weekend.
In the DK PRO final he placed fourth.
He is 2nd in the DK overall standings.

Danny Hart also did well and finished 4th in the Pro Open final.

CX Riders Miguel Torres and Jonathan Lopez
from Baja entered the BIA this past Weekend and Miguel Placed 2nd in the masters division and 4th in the AAA division , Although Jonathan didn't make the finals, he is still ranked first place in AA.

All Mex CX Riders are going to the nationals....this saturday Sergio Amezcua got 1st on the open division and 1st in the junior division, making him the state champ in both divisions, also Jonathan Lopez,got 1st in DK and 2nd in the open division , making him DK state champ and 2nd place overall in the open division, i got 5th in the open but i still made the cut im on 4th overall in the open and got 2nd overall in the masters division, and Ramon Garcia is state champ in Mazatlan , Sinaloa , so all 4 of us are going to the mex national.

On the USBA Tour he finished 1st in the DK Pro division and 3rd for prone. That is quite an accomplishment to end the year in the top 3 of both divisions.

This past weekends ESA in Cocoa Beach Florida had two districts competing together from West Florida as well as Central Florida.

The FBA held a contest this past weekend at South Vero Beach Park in Vero Beach, Florida.
They report the turnout was great but small waves for the contest.
They held 4 divisions with the first womans divison for the FBA.

Bobby Kithcart comes in second in the Pro Open!!
CX Good friend GT came in first but Custom X is happy to hear that Bobby placed second in the Pro final.

Bobby also came in first in the AAA division making him the overall points leader in that division for the year.

Placed 3rd in the NKF Surf Festival in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
With time running out they had to run a 8 man final heat and Al did well in pulling out a 3rd place.

Congratulations to Custom X riders that placed in the finals at the Jenks Pro. Top pro David Hubbard defended his drop knee title by winning again. He also placed 4th in the Mens pro. Puerto Rican top rider Javier 'Willo' placed second in the Mens pro.

The 3rd Ave. Surf Shop, Manasquan Inlet Surf and Bodyboard contest was held this past weekend. With 30 hardcore bodyboard competitors competing in 2-3 feet wedges off the jetty, CX rider JOhn Mangini placed second in the finals. Good job John!

Congratulations to the Tighe Brothers from New Jersey.
In a local contest Danny Tighe placed 1st the division 14 and under and 2nd in open.
Danny placed 1st in the open division. Both are first place overall in their divisions.

Custom X Flow Rider Team member Derek Hirata placed 1st in the 17 and under division at the Royal Caribean contes in San Dimas, California. Derek and his brother Dane are regular fixtures at the events and both usually do very well.

Custom X team riders Danny and Patrick Tighe competed in the bodyboard division at the ESA Northeastern Championship.Danny beat out Patrick in
the first heat by taking first.
The two met up again in the finals where Patrick took first
and Danny third overall. Good
job by both and qualifying
them for the Eastern National
Championships in Hatteras.

Custom X team rider Al Rumbos says the recent ESA Southeast Regionals at New Smyrna Beach saw some excellent competition in the bodyboard division. Very competive. Al managed to make it in the finals and finished 3rd. Good job Al and good to hear that competive bodyboarding is alive and well in Florida.

Al Rumbos placed 2nd in the Bodyboard Open division of the CFL ESA this past weekend. This was the last contest and Al heads over to Puerto Rico.

East coast Custom X rider Ryan Rhodes designed the Quest II last year with PMA. Here are photos of east coast 'X' rider Craig Purkiss trying it out for the first time.

Bobby Kithcart from the South Bay area placed 1st in the bodyboard division of the South Bay Surf Leaque High School All-Star Championships.
But it doesn't end there, this past weekend at the BIA contest in Manhattan, Bobby placed 1st in the AAA division and 1st in the Pro Open.

In the Puerto Rico Contest

Jorge placed 1st in both the open and drop knee divisions in the 'Los Almendros' contest in Puerto Rico on the weekend of the 20th January.

Congratulations to CX east coast team manager, rep, and team rider Ryan Rhodes for getting a profile in Eastern Surf Magazine.

Speaking of Al Rumbos, he came in first place in the open bodyboard division ofthis past weekends ESA CFL contest.

This past weekend the Surf Expo in Orlando Florida was held, where all the surf companes show their goods to the store buyers. Custom X's own JoJo was there and got to meet up with East Coast CX riders from left to right, Al Rumbos, Ryan Rhodes, and Shawn Lennon. Thanks guys for helping JoJo at the show.
